Txf Transparency Files Tutorial: #txf

How to Mod Textures- .Png Files vs. .Txf Files:

When you download the Thrixxx mod pack, there may be a .txf file along with the .png file.

If your computer runs Windows software, your computer probably has as a program called Notepad. Notepad creates documents called text files. Text files are like very basic word processing files without features like spacing, font, etc..

The TFX file is essentially a text file with a different extension. To create a TFX file open an new document with notepad and insert one of the below settings. The text should be on the first line and the only thing in the document. Once you are done select "Save As" from the file menu and change Save As type to: All Files. The file name should be the exact same name as the original texture name you modded with .txf as the file extension. (e.g. F_BabyDoll001_Panty.txf). It is very important not to change the name of either the .png or the .txf files, they have to be the same name as the original or the game won't recognize them and ignores the file.

The TFX file can have four different settings depending on what you want to texture to look like.

Type 1:

"RGB_888" "Opaque"

The above setting will render a texture that is completely opaque, if you have an alpha channel (the grey checkerboard) within your .png file it renders those parts solid black.

Type 2:

"RGBA_8888" "AlphaMask"

This setting will render all color parts of your .png file solid and leave the alphachannel transparent. If there is any transparency in the colored portions of you .png file this setting will make them opaque.

Type 3:

"RGBA_8888" "AlphaBlend"

This setting will render any colored portions with the intended transparency and leave the alphachannel completely transparent. It will create a fade in sections that taper off from solid to transparent as you might have intended.

"RGBA_8888" "AlphaBlend/WriteZ"

This setting will render both completely solid and transparent areas as intended in the .png. This is similar to "AlphaBlend" so depending on what you modded and the parts you removed this may or may not be a better setting to use.

Type 4:

"RGB_888" "Multiply"

Users can change the degree of transparency of clothes. This is a very special use. This is an example of its use.

So, locate your txf. file and double-click it to open it. If it does not open with Notepad, right-click the file, scroll to Open with..., and select Notepad from the list of programs.

With the txf. file opened, you can change the text to reflect only one of the four types:

"RGB_888" "Opaque"
"RGBA_8888" "AlphaMask"
"RGBA_8888" "AlphaBlend"
"RGB_888" "Multiply"

As was said above, the four types of .txf affect the transparency of the texture. Transparency is being able to see through a texture to the model or the background behind the model. In other words, transparency allows one to "cut" the texture, leaving out parts to give the texture a different shape.

So a modder can change the shape of a texture by cutting it down. Opaque does not allow for any cutting down. AlphaMask allows for cutting away anything in the alpahchannel of your .png file. The alphachannel is a layer of transparency that you can create in GIMP to be a part of your .png file. The other types are similar to AlphaMask, but allow for partial transparency as well as total transparency, meaning that parts of the texture will be "see-through" or sheer whereas other parts can be cut away entirely.
