Cardinal Forest: The story I had from our Grandfather shortly before he died in 1985 was that it all goes back to our Great Great Great Great Grandfather………. Priscilla: That’s an awful lot of Greats Forest! Cardinal Forest: Not really Priscilla, if you work it out its around 25 years for each generatio. Now as I was saying ………. Cardinal Forest: Our 4 Greats grandfather, Forest Porn, was born in 1800 and came with his parents to live in the east end of London sometime before 1810 when they sought refuge from poverty in Lithuania. Priscilla: So we’re all Lithuanians? Cardinal Forest: No Priscilla. 4 Greats Forest shows on the 1841 census as Lithuanian, a leather worker, but 3 Greats Forest who was 19 then shows as British and a meat porter. Priscilla: So pretty low down on the social scale then? Forest: Yes Priscilla, we didn’t all live on expense accounts in those days. Most children had to be at work before they were 12.
